There are so many digital tools available these days to help the educator enhance engagement with students online. This is one of the "problem statements" we have been looking at in PB04 and I volunteered to look into this particular one: How do we decide which is the best digital tool in the module we teach. How do we decide?
I found this article by Miral Gibson, Deputy Director of Education, Roehampton University helpful:

Dear Kevin, you have really raised an important question as it is enourmously significant to choose the right tool and / or platform. Otherwise, the process of education may turn into entertainment. A lot of criteria should be taken into consiretaion while choosing the best instrument to complement your course and foster students' understanding of the material. P.S. the video is great! Thanks for sharing!
ReplyDeleteThank you Oksana for reading! I haven't been active on writing my blog nor checking it. I have to work harder at this. I feel encouraged that people actually read whatever I put up here...:)
DeleteEngagement is key to learning. Very interesting to consider engagement through various tools, but also in different groups, how the same tool can be used in so many ways. Thank you.
ReplyDeleteThank you Viveca. I agree, engagement is like a key we give to our audience to open the door to new knowledge, ideas and inspiration. This is so especially if the knowledge to be shared is not of particular interest to the audience (students who have to sign up because it is compulsory! haha) so engagement them at a suitable level will be very helpful.

Good article! I guess the whole idea is to tailor the tools to a specific task.
ReplyDeleteThank you Edi! The final product is a function of the effective use of tools of the trade ...f(x)= x^2+2x+2 where x is the coefficient of effectiveness of the tool and this applies to the artist, baker, carpenter, dentist, electrician, ..f,g,h,i,j,k,l......the teacher ...and zoo keeper ...
